What is an AI text watermark?
An AI text watermark can be a statistical pattern in the words a model chooses. A detector checks that pattern across a passage. It is different from a visible logo on an image, and different from a zero-width character accidentally copied with text.
This distinction matters when you search for an AI text watermark remover. A Unicode cleaner can show the precise characters it removes. It cannot inspect a model’s private watermark signal just by looking for invisible characters.

AIWatermark.dev removes selected hidden Unicode characters from pasted text: zero-width spaces, byte order marks, word joiners and soft hyphens. It can also normalize unusual spaces. The optional AI rewrite changes wording. Neither operation certifies that a model’s statistical watermark is gone.
Does ChatGPT or Claude put invisible characters in every answer?+
Hidden copy-paste characters are not proof that text came from AI. OpenAI’s textGrain and Anthropic’s documented text watermark use statistical word-choice patterns, rather than adding invisible characters. Availability depends on the model, product and rollout.
Can I remove a statistical text watermark?+
Substantial rewriting can change the patterns used by a statistical watermark. Results vary with the watermark, model and text length. AIWatermark.dev offers optional rewriting but has no official detector access and cannot confirm removal or promise an undetectable result.
Is this tool free and private?+
The character cleaner is free, needs no account and runs in your browser. We do not receive or store your pasted text. Optional rewriting requires your own OpenRouter key and your agreement to send the text directly to OpenRouter and its provider. Their policies and account limits apply.
Will cleaning change my words or emoji?+
Local cleanup preserves your wording, paragraph breaks, visible punctuation and emoji joiners. Removing a zero-width space can join adjacent text, so inspect the result. Joiners, direction controls and variation selectors are preserved because they can be meaningful in multilingual text.
Is this an AI detector or a way to guarantee a detector score?+
No. The inspector counts known Unicode characters, not AI authorship or statistical watermarks. AIWatermark.dev does not generate an AI probability, watermark score or promise to pass a detector.
