What is a Claude text watermark?
Anthropic describes its text watermark as a statistical signal based on the words Claude chooses. Its announcement explicitly distinguishes this signal from added hidden characters. Deleting U+200B or U+FEFF from a passage does not demonstrate that the Claude watermark has been removed.
Pasted text can still contain zero-width spaces, unusual spacing or formatting artifacts. Those characters may come from an editor, webpage or clipboard. AIWatermark.dev can reveal and clean supported characters without claiming to identify who wrote the text.

- Paste the text and open the character inspector. A character count is not a Claude watermark score.
- Clean supported copy-paste artifacts. Review spacing, quotes, citations and paragraph breaks.
- If you want new wording, use the optional rewrite with your own OpenRouter key. Compare the result with your original.
A full rewrite changes the word sequence, while light edits can leave statistical patterns in place. Whether a particular signal remains requires the relevant detector; AIWatermark.dev has no access to Anthropic’s private detector and cannot issue a removal certificate.
Common questions
Is Claude’s watermark a hidden Unicode character?+
Anthropic’s documented watermark is statistical, rather than a hidden Unicode character. A hidden character in copied text is not evidence of Claude authorship.
Can AIWatermark.dev verify Claude watermark removal?+
No. It verifies local character changes. Optional rewriting changes wording, but its effect on Claude’s statistical signal is not measured here.
Is a Claude watermark remover different from a Claude AI detector?+
Yes. An AI classifier estimates authorship; an official watermark detector checks a specific signal. AIWatermark.dev is a character cleaner and optional rewriter, not either detector.
